Press Check Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a press check?
A press check is your final opportunity to review how your work has been turned into a printed product. Generally, press checks are only done on the most critical of jobs.

Where are press checks done?
These are normally done at the press location and as signatures are ready to review they are brought to you in the customer lounge. Occasionally, you may be invited to view your work in progress on the press room floor.

What should I expect to review?
When a sheet is ready based on our experience and expectation, you will be given a full press sheet to review. We have color corrected light booths and inspection loops available. You should bring any collateral material for final review. If your job was proofed online via Kodak InSite, we will have a computer available to review page content.

Will I have color correct proofs available?
Color accurate, approved proofs may be available from your CSR, however, please make arrangements BEFORE your proof date to have them available. If you have proofed images with random proofs or paid for proofs, you should bring them with you. Additional proofs may be generated at an additional charge.

Will I be able to ask for color to be adjusted?
Yes. In most cases minor color adjustments can be made at the press. However, it is important to understand that adjusting color on one page, may also adjust color of other pages that are “in line”.

What if I find a mistake in text, copy or page numbers?
These errors may be corrected, however, there will be an additional cost to stop the press, fix the error, make new plates and get the press back to printing conditions. You may be asked to sign documentation for the request by your CSR.

Will I be asked to “sign-off” on a signature?
Yes, generally, we will request that you sign an approved signature for our press operators to run to. This will ensure that during the press run, we will be able to review your expectations.

How long will a press check take?
Depending on the number of signatures and the quantity of run time, a press check can take hours or days. For a more accurate estimate, contact your CSR.

Will I be responsible for expenses during a press check?
Yes. We have special rates at local hotels for your reservations. If you have any additional questions, please contact your CSR.
